Market stall sellers pay 300 to 500 baht a day for a spot and can't tell how much to cook or if it will pay
A Pantip post (April 2026) says Bangkok night markets such as One Ratchada, Jodd Fairs and Talad Indy closed in 2025. A Samut Sakhon cook says her daily sales fell to 30 to 40% of before, some nights under 1,000 baht, and she throws food away. A drink seller pays 300 to 500 baht a day and sellers put break-even at 1,500 to 2,000 baht. In October 2026 a would-be seller asks Pantip if a 300 baht a day spot for ceramics is worth it.

5 ways to tackle it
Hardware and sensors
Foot Counter: a small camera that counts passers-by and how many stop at the stall
A cheap ESP32 camera on the stall pole counts people on the lane and those who stop within two meters, on the device, without saving faces. After a night the owner sees 'passed 840, stopped 62, bought 31' and can judge a 300 baht spot before paying for a month.
Build with ESP32-CAM, on-device people counter, OLED, Google Sheets
Data and maps
Prep Planner: tells a cook how many portions to prep tomorrow from past sales, payday and rain
A cook keeps a simple sales tally. The tool combines it with payday week, the rain forecast and local events and says 'prep 60 portions tomorrow, not 120', so less food is thrown out on the slow nights.
Build with Python, Open-Meteo forecast API, Google Sheets, Claude
Camera and vision
Tally Photo: photograph the paper tally and see profit after rent, ingredients and waste
One seller said break-even for her stall is around 1,500 to 2,000 baht a day and some nights sales don't reach 1,000. Claude vision reads the paper tally, subtracts the 300 to 500 baht spot, ingredients and thrown-out food, and says whether the night paid.
Build with Claude vision, Google Sheets, simple web page
Voice and phone
End-of-Night Call: say what is left and hear what to discount and cook tomorrow
At closing the owner calls and says what is left in Thai. The voice suggests a half-price time for tomorrow, what to cook less of, and keeps the nightly numbers in a sheet, so a cook with greasy hands never opens an app.
Build with Twilio voice, Thai speech recognition, Claude, Google Sheets
Hardware and sensors
Last-Hour Stickers: a thermal printer that prints half-price signs at 9 pm
The owner taps a button on a small box with a receipt printer. It prints 'half price from 9 pm' tags and a sign with the item and quantity left, and counts how many tags were redeemed, so the extra sales cover part of the food that would be thrown out.
Build with Raspberry Pi, thermal printer, big button, Flask
