Urban refugees in Bangkok lack safe multilingual information on services and legal risks
A Thai journal study based on 20 Bangkok interviews says about 5,500 urban refugees and asylum seekers from more than 40 countries face arrest, detention and limited access to basic services, and that the 2019 screening mechanism may not reduce those risks.

5 ways to tackle it
Hardware and sensors
Stop Card: a printed wallet card in Thai and your language with your case number
A volunteer or the person fills a short form on a phone. The system prints a folded wallet-sized card in Thai and the holder's language, such as 'I am registered with UNHCR, please call this number', with a trusted contact. It works when the phone is dead or taken.
Build with Claude translation, print-ready PDF, QR with offline text, label printer or home printer
Hardware and sensors
Info Box: a no-internet Raspberry Pi hotspot that serves vetted answers in your language
A small Raspberry Pi in a community center makes its own Wi-Fi with no internet and no logins. People join it and read or hear NGO-checked answers on clinics, schools and legal aid in Arabic, Urdu, Somali or Vietnamese. It stores no names and keeps no history.
Build with Raspberry Pi 4, hostapd Wi-Fi hotspot, captive portal, static site with TTS audio, Claude for translation
Voice and phone
Clinic Interpreter Line: call a number and get turn-by-turn voice translation
A patient and a clinic receptionist share a phone call line. Each person speaks in turn, the AI transcribes and translates, and the other side hears it in their language, so no family member has to translate.
Build with Twilio Voice conference, Whisper, Claude, TTS for Thai, Arabic, Urdu, Somali
Data and maps
Service Map: clinics, schools and legal aid filtered by language and ID needed
Volunteers confirm each service by phone and the map shows what language is spoken, whether ID is required, and the date it was last verified. The AI turns volunteer call notes into short entries in several languages.
Build with Leaflet, Supabase, Claude, Google Places for addresses
Automation and APIs
Check-In Circle: a missed check-in alerts a lawyer or NGO with a case note
A user agrees on check-in times with a trusted circle. If a check-in is missed, the system alerts the circle and a partner NGO with the last location and a short note the user wrote earlier, so help starts in minutes.
Build with n8n, Twilio SMS, Supabase, scheduled checks, geolocation
