Home animal rescuers and food donors can't find each other, and donors can't tell who is real

On Pantip a rescuer who took in an abandoned cat with broken claws says vaccines and medicine already cost thousands of baht and asks where free cat food is given out. Another poster holding dry food and canned food needed a new drop-off spot in Bangkok after the planned one became inconvenient, and related threads show a temple with about 58 cats and a carer of about 50 neutered strays asking for food. In March 2025 a vet warned that scammers build fake animal clinic pages and that their accomplices confirm the case when donors call to check. SOS Animal's advice to donors is to check the page's history, registration and whether spending and animal updates stay public.

5 ways to tackle it

  • Hardware and sensors

Drop Box Scale: a community food bin that weighs donations and shows what is still needed

A bin at a cafe or pet shop sits on a scale. An e-ink screen shows 'for Wat cats: 12 kg in, 30 kg needed', and donors add a bag and watch the number move. The rescuer collects it on a known day, so the drop-off spot no longer depends on one person's schedule.

Build with ESP32, HX711 load cell, e-ink 4.2 inch, Google Sheets

  • Camera and vision

Receipt Check: Claude reads the clinic bill so donors don't have to trust a caption

The donor uploads the receipt shown in a fundraising post. Vision reads clinic name, date, amount and items, checks them against the post's amount and flags mismatches like a bill dated before the case or a clinic with no registration.

Build with Claude vision, clinic registry lookup, mobile web

  • AI agent

Page Verifier: paste a donation page, get a check on its age, names and photos

The donor pastes a page link. The agent checks how old the page is, whether the name changed, whether the cat photos appear elsewhere through reverse image search, and whether it lists a registered group, returning a plain-language verdict like the checklist SOS Animal suggests.

Build with Claude, reverse image search, Facebook page transparency data, web fetch

  • Data and maps

Food Route: a map that sends a donor with food to the nearest rescuer who needs that kind

The donor enters what they have and where they are. The map ranks rescuers and temples by distance and current need, with the verified badge from Receipt Check, so a person holding dry food and cans gets a new drop-off in one tap.

Build with Next.js, Supabase, OpenStreetMap, need tags

  • Web portal

Needs Poster: print this week's real needs with bill photos and a QR for the wall

The rescuer enters what is needed and attaches bills. The tool makes a one-page A4 poster with photos, amounts and a QR, ready for the vet's, cafe or temple wall, so trust is visible to people who never open an app.

Build with Next.js, HTML to PDF, QR, bill thumbnails
